Welcome to Achnagairn House

You wake with the sunrise: a ball of fire emerging from the sea directly in front of your window. From black though purple to the bright blue that characterises almost every day.

You arise from the enormous four poster bed faced with the decision of which of the three possible views should greet you first – the azure of the bay towards Green Island,  the luscious vegetation on the hills or the almost Norwegian fjord behind, complete with mountains and river.

Another tough choice – a shower in the bathroom of travertine stone, or do you prefer a Jacuzzi with your partner in the double bath? Whichever you choose, a view of paradise accompanies your ablutions.

Breakfast can be taken on either veranda depending on whether you prefer sun or shade, breeze or calm. If you’re feeling like being pampered, a short walk takes you down to the beach, with its elegant restaurant.

The morning is spent sunbathing in deckchairs or hammocks and dipping into the 50 foot private infinity pool, watching the occasional pelican, butterfly or mongoose enjoying the sunshine. For lunch you jump into the car and make your way to Harry’s Bar, ten minutes away. This can be found on Half Moon Bay, considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean (and by extension, the world.) Not to be confused with its Venetian namesake, Harry’s Bar serves simple but fantastically tasty Caribbean fare (Black Chicken is a firm favourite).

The afternoon is spent bodysurfing for the adventurous, snorkelling for the curious and sunbathing for the hedonists.

Back to the house for early evening cocktails, watching a kaleidoscope of colour as the sun sets over the fjord.

To Harmony Hall for dinner, five minutes by car, maybe ten by boat. Here you find exquisite Italian cuisine, and a chance to rub shoulders with the glitterati, whether it’s Berlusconi popping over from his villa across the water, or Oprah from hers on Jumby Bay.

One final duty once back at the villa – taking ten minutes to lounge in a deckchair and simply stare at the skies. Far from the city lights, you can almost touch the stars.
