Welcome to Achnagairn House

Antigua allows you to do as much or as little as you please.

Beaches

Antigua has a beach for every day of the year. Often, even in peak season, you will find yourself on a stretch of pure white sand, without a soul. Near to the Villa, there are several excellent beaches, the best of which is Half-Moon Bay. Less than 10 minutes away.

There is also the world famous Green Island, a protected small island with beaches so beautiful that every Round-the-Island cruise makes a brief visit. It is endowed with coral reefs, ideal for snorkelling, little bays of outstanding beauty and certain times of year the island is home to clouds of butterflies. A true paradise. It is 10 minutes form the Villa by boat.

History

Nelson was posted to Antigua for two years. Although (inexplicably!) has wasn’t a great fan, he left behind Nelson’s Dockyard, a well preserved area of old buildings of great architectural beauty.

Natural Beauty

Antigua is a stunning island. It is possible to circumnavigate it by boat in a day or in a car in a few hours. You will see dramatic landscapes, with a coastline boasting many of the best beaches in the Caribbean, picturesque houses of pastel shades and a stretch in a rainforest, where if you stop towards dusk, the noises of excited animals and birds are almost deafening!

Shopping

The capital St John’s is half an hour away. Here the vast cruise ships pull in to allow guests to enjoy duty free shopping ranging from well stocked jewellery shops to clothing boutiques and plenty of shops devoted to local artefacts. Beware though – it is easy part with a large amount f money in a very short space of time!

Sports

Water sports are available as part of the NonSuch development, with sailing boats for all levels. For those with an adventurous bent, kite surfing conditions are ideal at Green Island. Golf, tennis, and walking are also popular on the island.

Restaurants

There are a host of excellent restaurants on the island, catering to all tastes and budgets. Near to the Villa is Harmony Hall, renowned as one of the best Italian restaurants in the Caribbean. Not only is the food excellent, but the atmosphere is legendary. As part of the NonSuch resort, there is also a first class restaurant, offering the finest in international cuisine. In addition, the island has many top class hotels with excellent restaurants open to non-residents – Carlisle Bay, Curtain Bluff and the Hermitage, to name but a few.
